Scope

From requirements to migration.

The providers differ far more in how they handle documentation and offline use than in their feature lists. That is where we look first.

  1. 01

    Requirements mapping

What your vessel, your crew and your management company need from a system.

  2. 02

    Systems compared on merit

How each candidate handles documentation, offline use and day-to-day work, measured against those needs.

  3. 03

    Cost and licence models

Subscription or upfront licence, compared over the years you expect to run the system.

  4. 04

    Procurement support

If you ask, we handle the licence purchase as a convenience. It plays no part in what we recommend.

  5. 05

    Migration planning

Moving from one system to another while keeping the history you have.

Disclosure

Where we have an interest, we say so.

You should be able to weigh a recommendation knowing everything that sits behind it.

  1. We tell you before you decide.

Where we have a commercial interest in a system we put forward, we say so before you choose, so you can weigh the recommendation knowing it.

  2. No vendor pays us to recommend them.

No third-party vendor pays us a commission. The comparison comes down to your vessel, your crew and your budget.

  3. A licence purchase is a convenience.

Occasionally a client asks us to handle the purchase, because it is one supplier fewer for them to set up. We do it on request and it plays no part in the recommendation.

How do we choose between the software providers?

There are around fifteen serious providers, ranging from roughly €300 to €6,000 a year, some sold as a subscription and some as an upfront licence. They differ far more in how they handle documentation and offline use than in their feature lists. We have worked inside IDEA, Deep Blue, Seahub, Marad and more, so the comparison comes down to your vessel and your crew.

We already run a system. Should we move?

Often the system is not the problem; the data inside it is. We look at both. If the data is the issue, we rebuild it in the system you have. If the system itself no longer fits, we plan the move so the history comes with you.
